How do we talk about the colonial past? And is the colonial perspective really about the past?

What does the process of decolonization of performing arts look like? Who owns the narratives, how are they told, and how do we decentralize making processes in the arts? What has been done so far, or have we actually started yet?  Let’s participate in discussions that should have started long ago and will be needed for a long time to come.

We will talk about ownership and (de)colonial performances with three SPRING makers: Brazilian choreographer Leandro Souza, Singaporean artist Choy Ka Fai, and Francesca Vincentie, a maker in The Indonesian Dialogues. The conversation will be moderated by Linda Mayasari – researcher, dramaturg and associate curator of the Indonesian Dance Festival.

Topic Talks are in-depth conversations on SPRING themes: current topics that matter. What trends do we see in the contemporary performing arts field and what do they mean for the world around us? In addition to ‘Ownership & (De)colonial Practices’, visit the Topic Talk ‘War on Stage.’ This year we are also experimenting with a new form of Topic Talks in which exchange between makers and audience is central: the Long Table Talks. Join the conversation in our Long Table Talk ‘Speculative Storytelling’ or ‘Staging Climate’.

The main language of the Topic Talks and Long Table Talks is English.
