SPRING 2026

DAS Theatre hosts an exchange around how to share artistic research beyond ‘finished works.

As we all know, making theatre does not only lead to full-length plays. Not only have artists been more and more pushing the boundaries of what theatre is and can be – by creating audio walks, tarot readings, table games, lectures, conversations etc. – but also both artists and the performing arts field have been embracing the possibilities to meet audiences during a process or in different formats that are coming from the larger research a theatre artist is involved in.

DAS Theatre is a master’s programme for research-based artistic and curatorial practices in the field of theatre in Amsterdam. Three years ago, we realized that having our two-year program ending into the master proof presentations was not practising what we preach. As a theatre master, we believe that making performances is only one of many important aspects a theatre artist can be involved.

This year we’ll host a reflection session around what artists can share beyond finished works. We’ll invite a SPRING artist and the festival’s artistic director to discuss what kind of encounters can be created when opening up a process of creation earlier on and invite outsiders into diverse artistic universes. How do we define ‘artistic research’? And how can it be shared with others beyond finished staged work?

After the conversation, we’ll invite everyone for 2 round tables sessions where professionals, students and artists can meet and exchange around a couple of related questions and topics. The 2nd year DAS students will facilitate each table.
