SPRING x Centraal Museum Utrecht: Centraal Laat
Together with Centraal Museum Utrecht, SPRING will organise Centraal Laat on the 11th of September! With performances, art, music, talks, exchange and more.

Selected families and family structures, during the upcoming Centraal Laat, SPRING Performing Arts Festival will expand on the theme of the exhibition Good Mom/ Bad Mom in the Centraal Museum. During Centraal Laat, a different cultural organization from Utrecht takes over the museum for one evening and creates a one-off event that ties in with the current exhibition. This evening, which heralds the final weekend of the exhibition, offers everything you love about SPRING packed into one evening. There are performances and music, and space for fun and reflection through our talk or reading group. You will meet artists you have seen before at SPRING, as well as completely new faces.
The program includes the performance Shoe farm, a prelude by the Buren collective. As daughters of a shoe store and a farm, Melissa and Oshin ask questions about how family ties and origins influence ideas about labor, class, and money. What does it mean to be an heir as well as a “child of”? Homegrown and self-made?
In addition to the narrative of biological parenthood, we also shed light on the importance of chosen families. Performers from House of Extinction take you into the world of Drag, and researcher and Drag mother Taka Taka (known from House of Løstbois) participates in the Topic Talk about (performing) arts, parenthood, and community. As the icing on the cake, artists will take you to their favorite work in the exhibition, and in our ‘reading space’ you can read and discuss texts that inspired the creators of this evening.
