The legendary African musician and activist Fela Kuti forms the main inspiration for ‘Kalakuta Republik’. During his lifetime Kuti fought for justice, and his spirit is the connecting thread that runs through this show. The Belgian-Burkinabe choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly translates Kuti’s political fight into a masterful performance that shows Coulibaly and his dancers and musicians determining their position as artists in our globalised world. A show packed with energy, a piece of Africa without the clichés but with the inciting Afrobeat, powerful dance and political engagement.
