“Sorry, But I Feel Slightly Disidentified…”

In this piece, artist and performer Cherish Menzo singlehandedly takes possession of the stage. She dances, moves and shakes her body, one moment subdued, the next as if her life depended on it. Benjamin Kahn made this solo performance for Menzo as the first piece of a trilogy dedicated to the body, stereotypes, and identity. How do preconceptions passed down from generation to generation influence our world view? How do they shape our identity? And how do they affect us socially and emotionally?
