Sensing Dark Matter is an innovative virtual reality experience by Su WenChi and YILAB, born from an artistic residency in Melbourne where science and imagination converge. Inspired by conversations with physicists and visits to underground laboratories, the creators have crafted a mesmerizing virtual realm that reimagines the invisible forces shaping our universe.

This immersive journey invites you to step into a space where the unseen is revealed. Using VR headsets and spatial audio, you float through dreamlike landscapes where mysterious forces dance and intertwine, forming patterns that challenge your perception of reality. The experience unfolds like a cosmic poem—where gravity appears as flowing streams of light and shadow, and dark matter manifests as ever-shifting, almost tangible forms.

By blending cutting-edge technology with artistic vision, Sensing Dark Matter transforms abstract scientific concepts into an emotional, sensory experience. The project creates a dreamlike space for exploration and reflection, offering a unique perspective on the hidden fabric of reality through the lens of artistic imagination—one that invites us to rethink our connection to the vast and mysterious universe around us.

“Sensing Dark Matter is gorgeously rendered, but it’s also a suggestive allegory for human perception. We see only a few glimmers of light, but from these minimal cues, we construct vast worlds, imagining far beyond what is immediately visible. It’s a short journey, only 17 minutes, but a heck of trip.”
