Ukrainian maker Nina Khyzhna is this year’s festival resident of SPRING. After the Topic Talk War on Stage, she will give a performative presentation of her latest work Someone Like Me.
Nina Khyzhna is a Ukrainian professional theater director, performer, and choreographer. She studied theater and film acting at Kharkiv National Kotlyarevsky University of Arts. Nina worked with theaters in Poland, Slovakia, and Austria.
Nina works in the field of post-documental, dance theater, and performances. Her work focuses on corporeality, body language, body texts, and the contexts in which they are placed. Her work is mainly concerned with themes such as identity, memory, security, war, the political body, and propaganda. Nina sees theater as a tool for creating a community united by common values and a place to problematize complex, uncomfortable topics.
In her Performative presentation at SPRING, she will discuss the process of creating the theater performance ‘Someone Like Me,’ which explores the theme of corporeality in a state of constant danger. Additionally, Nina will share insights into theater life within the context of the front-line city of Kharkiv, which is experiencing blackouts and constant rocket fire and drone attacks by the Russians.
___Nina Khyzhna’s residency is supported by the European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists -EFFEA, co-funded by the European Union. This residency is a collaboration of SPRING with partner festivals Berliner Festspiele and Santarcangelo Festival (Italy).
