After the enormous success of Magnificat at SPRING 2013, Polish theatre director and musician Marta Górnicka returns to Utrecht with her unique form of large choreographed choir. Hymn to Love is a wonderful collage of texts and music from national hymns, political speeches, rap lyrics, internet hate-talk and religious ceremonies. A virtuoso remix presented by a diverse cast of 25 performers: men and women, professionals and amatures, children and seniors and people with disabilities. The performance focuses on the rise of the current European nationalism and the refugee crisis, the closure of European orders, and how forgetting leads to a repetition of history. Due to the sympathetic cast and musical craftsmanship these issues are handled in a surprisingly light and playful manner.
‘Hymn to Love is a masterpiece. Precision and energy, dynamism and rhythmical perfection.’ – Gazeta Wyborcza
