Yoko Haveman
Yoko Haveman (1994, Brazilian/Japanese), is a Dutch interdisciplinary maker: director, choreographer, and performance artist for both theatre and film. Her work navigates the intersection of movement, visual poetry, and raw human expression. With more than a decade of experience in dance, martials arts and photography, she pushes the boundaries of experimental physical storytelling to explore themes of human vices, idealism and eroticism. Her artistic language, often combined with multiple mediums and supported by theoretical framings, is immersive and visceral. With the body as a key element she continues challenging and redefining autonomy from personal and intercultural experiences.
Yoko graduated from the Amsterdam Academy of the Arts with a bachelor degree in Modern Theatre Dance. Since 2016 she has been working as a freelance artist with renowned choreographers, musicians, and production houses such as Dansateliers, Rauwkost Film, Ann van den Broek, and De Dansers. In 2022, Yoko was nominated for the Young Swan in the category of most impressive performance for the production Vier by De Dansers by the Association of Theatre and Concert Hall Directors.
In her work, Yoko seeks connection and friction with the beholder, both verbally and physically, while embracing absurdity. She continues developing as a maker shaped by authenticity and sensorial experiences, evolving beyond traditional performance and non-linear narratives to show a different perspective on what it means to be human.
