Mette Ingvartsen

The Danish choreographer and dancer Mette Ingvartsen graduated from P.A.R.T.S in 2004 and holds a PhD in choreography from Lund University in Sweden. In her early works, like “Manual Focus” (2003) and “50/50” (2004), Ingvartsen explored emotion and perception through bodily expression. Between 2009 and 2017 she created two major cycles, “Artificial Nature” and “Red Pieces”, in which she explored new definitions of human and non-human relationships. In these choreographies she highlighted socio-political themes such as nudity and sexuality. More recently, Ingvartsen researched the interplay between man, technology and natural materials in “Moving in Concert” (2019), and issues around migration in “The Life Work” (2021). With her large-scale show “Skatepark” (2023) she brought together skaters, dancers and local communities. Ingvartsens work has been shown worldwide and her innovative praktice includes research and education.
