Ely Daou
Ely Daou’s body of work questions and protests themes of human conflict and the human experience, including his own. Through durational performances, he engages in repeated movements and labor, cultivating an awareness of the body and subtle shifts in the surrounding environment. Despite imposing strict rules and structures on his routines and himself, his work often becomes expressive and sometimes consciously absurd.
These actions delve into broader discussions surrounding identity, labor, and the human condition.
For over a decade, as a full-time independent artist, Ely Daou has chosen not to compromise his art practice by treating it as a “job.” Due to the lack of a fixed base or consistent income, he has been constantly on the move. This approach allows him to focus on developing his practice while safeguarding his personal time and steadfastly rejecting any form of “Bullshit Jobs.”
