SPRING Academy Trajectories: Movement & Vocabularies of the body hosted by Eisa Jocson
How has our cultural and socio-economic conditioning informed our bodily movements? What vocabularies of movement have we programmed in our bodies in order to survive? What can we access with these movement vocabularies? What would be inaccessible to us?
Artist’s works are portals to a cultivated movement language based on their histories, processes, context and subject. When viewing and reflecting on an Artist’s work, how does our conditioning inform the way we perceive, experience and reflect? What personal boundaries and limitations are challenged?
How does our body sit or deal with the unknown, with something new? How does dissonance settle in one’s body?
Host
Eisa Jocson is an interdisciplinary artist based in La Union, Philippines. Trained as a visual artist with a background in ballet, she came to contemporary dance through pole dancing. In her works, she explores body politics in the service and entertainment industry as seen through the socioeconomic lens of the Philippines. She studies how the body moves and what conditions make it move – be it social mobility or movement out of the Philippines through migrant work.
