In some films, there are loud sounds.
24 films by 24 artists from different fields, screened back-to-back in a sleepover cinema setup. Artists challenge their usual production methods, creating footage with minimal content, simplified composition, and limited plot. Now, we invite you to challenge your viewing habits, embrace the passage of time, and enjoy the beauty of wasted time.
Drops of wasted time trickle down the relaxed bodies of visitors, capturing the boredom of a long afternoon. Day and night blur into one continuous stream of slow films, forming a temporal structure with regular hourly intervals. Attention is unfocused, concentration dispersed, and sleep arrives and departs in an irregular rhythm. Binge-watching? Slow TV cinema offers us time and rest, inviting us to slow down.
A performative event that encourages visitors to unwind and immerse themselves in the flow of moving images. Twenty-four films by twenty-four artists from various backgrounds, projected one after another. For Y: Slow TV Cinema, artists were commissioned to challenge their usual production methods by creating footage with minimal content. The format rejects plot and composition in favor of focusing on the “live-image” object. As a result, the film offers a spatial gaze instead of a linear narrative. For some, the challenge lies in the medium itself—how would a performance artist see their work through a camera lens? For others, the challenge is in the limited attention span created by Slow TV—how much artistic labor goes into a production that demands minimal engagement from the audience?
