The performance-installation Schuldfabrik takes you through a series of spaces behind a high-end soap store. The raw material for Julian Hetzel’s project is the German/Dutch term ‘Schuld’, which can indicate both moral guilt and financial debt. Hetzel’s proposal is to use it as currency for trade and to set up a business with it and wash our guilt away. In collaboration with plastic surgeons and their clients, Julian Hetzel created a soap from human fat that is sourced from liposuction. Self – Human Soap: made from people, for people. Schuldfabrik is playful, provocative and surprising.
