“Good evening Holland!” PERMANENT DESTRUCTION is back. Following on from last year’s The SK Concert, theatre maker Naomi Velissariou and sound designer Joost Maaskant now present The HM Concert, a theatrical concert-performance based on the work of the German playwright Heiner Müller, featuring visuals by photographer/visual artist Jan Hoek. The duo was commended by the press for its daring mix of incisive, abrasive lyrics plus a soundscape that combines danceable poppy melodies with pounding beats.
The HM Concert sees PERMANENT DESTRUCTION polishing off a range of taboos from contemporary visual culture. Emotions such as disappointment in love and misogyny currently remain invisible, because they aren’t sexy or Instagram-worthy. The performance demonstrates how fear can be curbed by honouring it, how the heaviness is lifted from your shoulders when you dance to the beat of your pain.
