From shock performer to friendly guide: Ivo Dimchev sings, dances, paints and talks to the audience
“I believe that art is a conversation, and then I want my interlocutor to be equally active. The distance I have from the audience varies from performance to performance. I once started giving the audience text in New York because the actors found it too shocking and sexual. At the last minute, to save the show, I then asked the audience to jump in. That’s how I discovered that it’s a good way to make people understand what I’m doing, what the intention is. It reduces the distance.” – Ivo Dimchev interviewed by Francine van der Wiel for the NRC.
