With his piece Maibaum, Jordi Gali is reviving an old tradition from Central and Northern Europe: that of young men and women erecting a maypole in the village square and dancing around it. Gali is coming to Utrecht to present his contemporary version. For three hours, he and his group of dancers will be working hard to erect a magnificent sculpture, consisting of a mast and hundreds of coloured lengths of rope. Every movement in the process is carefully and stylishly choreographed. We invite you to come and watch the construction process as well as the end result. Because when darkness falls, the structure reveals its final and ephemeral shape: a beautifully lit Maibaum.
