Like a murder of crows a group of women – dressed in black and wearing white head scarves – is taking flight. Their voices swell until they explode in a unified female primal scream. At the top of their lungs. Their rhythmic movements are entrancing. Together they are trying to find ways to express their female existence. Corbeaux is an ecstatic and mesmerizing performance. It is the Moroccan choreographer Bouchra Ouizguen’s way of exploring essential, relevant issues, taking a closer look at origins and relations, identity and emancipation, and the visibility of (Muslim) women in society and in the streets. Corbeaux in Utrecht is co-presented by SPRING and Dancing On The Edge. This version brings together women from Marrakesh and The Netherlands, from different ages and different backgrounds.
