Thielman Susato’s Mussyck Boexken Danserye is a collection of scores for dance music that was created for ballroom dance events in 1551. During these performance parties, participants could be either spectators or dance partners. With eight musicians and dancers, Sebastian Matthias is attempting to transfer this musical dance party into the framework of a contemporary dance performance. Danserye is a search for possible forms of interaction amongst musicians, dancers and viewers. Put on your dancing shoes. Or don’t.
