Working in Public Spaces
How can you work in public spaces as a site-specific artist? Annabel Schouten is one of the artists-in-residence for the collaborative project between Gaudeamus and SPRING. During SPRING 2026, she will be further developing her research and leading a workshop on the subject.
Annabel Schouten discovers new practices positioning her atelier in the landscape where she creates an artwork for. Her companion is a big cargoo bike which she has transformed into mobile atelier. She calls her friend “the Meemaker”, a word with two meanings in Dutch: meaning the co-creator as well as the experiencer.
In this workshop Annabel will take you along in her artistic research, and you will also get a chance to experience this way of creating yourself! The workshop is an invitation to open up towards your surroundings as well as the unexpected encounter. To listen to what is already happening in the context you enter, to play while trying something for the first time and last but not least, to trust. Trust you will be informed by life that is happens around you.
