Come together for a cozy Friday evening, where we collectively read stories that feature food and culinary practices as a main character.

We will dive into various chapters from The Vegetarian by Han Kang and I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki by Baek Sehee. There is no need to read the books beforehand. Enjoy a cup of tea and a special snack and read and discuss these special books together.

Date and time: September 20th, 19.00-21.00

    Location: Savannah Bay bookstore

Price: free, but please register through this link.

Workshop ‘Storytelling through Kitchen Practices’ with Jaha Koo

Creator Jaha Koo will also give a workshop on storytelling and ‘kitchen practices’ on Monday September 23.

Jaha Koo is a South-Korean theater and performance maker, music composer and videographer. After obtaining a BA in Theater studies in Korea, he graduated from DAS Theater in Amsterdam in 2016.

Haribo Kimchi is not Koo’s first performance that attributes a large part to food and kitchen practices. In his earlier work Cuckoo, Koo staged multiple talking rice cookers to take us through 20 years of Korean history.  In this 4 hour long workshop, Koo will share his working methods with the participants. Taking us along in the historical and political contexts of South-Korean food culture, we will dive into the art of storytelling through kitchen practices.

While we collectively prepare the dishes Koo uses in Haribo Kimchi, stories unfold and narratives expand.

The workshop includes a small meal.

Date and time: September 23rd, 16h-20h

    Location: De Berenkuil, Utrecht

    Price: 25€

Note: you can only partake in the workshop if you will see the performance of Haribo Kimchi. Please get your ticket on time.
